As Executive Vice President for Nokia, Hallstein Moerk had global responsibility for all human resources activity including employee development, management and leadership development, compensation, benefits, staffing, and global diversity. He was also responsible for Real Estate and Facilities. He was secretary of the Personnel Committee of Nokia’s Board of Directors since 1999.
He accepted the position of Senior Vice President in 1999 after a 22-year career at Hewlett-Packard. There he moved through various positions from Controller, Hewlett-Packard A/S Norway, to Managing Director, European Multicountry Region. Prior to this Hallstein held different positions at Texas Instruments in Denmark and Norway.
Hallstein has participated in all Group Executive Board meetings since he joined Nokia and he became a formal member in 2004. Hallstein was inducted as a fellow into the National Academy of Human Resources Class of 2007. He won the price “Kunsten å lede” in 2006 in Norway.
He holds a “Diplomekonom” degree from the Norwegian School of Management.
Hallstein was born on September 26, 1953, in Halden, Norway. He is married and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys sailing, fishing, skiing, golf and outdoor activities especially in the Scandinavian nature.
Hallstein has lived in 7 countries. In addition to Norway, he has lived in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, United States and United Kingdom. He asked to be released from his duties as EVP of HR in Nokia during summer 2009 and left the position April 1 2010. He remained in the company as Executive Advisor till October 1 2010 to help with the transition to new HR management.
